2024. 24 June. Here are a few scenes from the opening of the 88th National Midyear Show at the Butler Institute of American Art in Youngstown Ohio. The museum has an excellent permanent collection representing centuries of American art. The old master print temporary exhibit included works by Rembrandt, Goya and Dürer.

2024. 13 February. I have exhibited regularly at the Lawrence Street Gallery’s popular winter exhbit, The Body Eclectic. My work Odalisque on striped pillows was accepted to The Body Eclectic 2024. It gives a view of artists in my studio ardently working out their ideas for an odalisque, a pose of established tradition in classical painting. The challenge is sober and pleasureable.

Make it stand out

2024. 12 February. The Toledo Artists’ Club accepted my oil paintings Paired Pansy Pots and Blues and Purples for 2023 Small Sizes, Big Ideas Show, December 1, 2023, through January 24, 2024. Blues and Purples won an honorable mention. Below are appreciative words by the Juror, Kathleen Dayo Pahl:

HONORABLE MENTION Blues and Purples by Robert du Nord

What a fun little piece! Common practice for artists, still life is a genre with a lot of history. Due to the smallness of the piece, we are once again given an intimate view of the environment. The eye is delightfully directed through the environment to all the objects; the two busts, a work shirt, a woman in a chair, and so on. What makes this piece so wonderful is the miniature little world that has been created. It feels as though one is staring into an elaborate dollhouse. The application of paint adds to this feel with its flat matte finish and nearly hidden brushstrokes creating an abundance of unexpected detail for a work so small.
